As the saying goes, time is money. Businesses do whatever they can to cut down on expenses, and they are increasingly recognizing the value of software integration in saving time and money. That’s why a leading manufacturer of sports equipment recently gave our Datix consultants a call to help them implement a CyberSource connector to automate payment authorizations and captures. To get the details behind this recent payment gateway integration success story, I spoke with one of our developers of the connector.
A: CyberSource is a leading payment gateway, which means that it authorizes credit card payments between merchants and customers for online and brick and mortar stores. What sets CyberSource apart from other payment processors is its reliability. It has the world’s largest fraud detection radar as well as risk management solutions that make it a secure system for businesses.
A: The manufacturer needed to authorize a payment in their Salesforce CRM instance, but they did not want to capture payment until orders were shipped. It sounds simple enough, but the process required two manual tasks which wasted considerable time that could have been delegated to revenue-generating operations.
A: Those two manual tasks—completely gone. The entire process is automated, reducing the duration from two weeks to two days. Here’s a rundown of the workflow: Once Salesforce receives an order, it requests a payment authorization from CyberSource. Once approved, CyberSource returns an authorization key to Salesforce. Salesforce moves this authorization key to the ERP system for order shipment. The authorization key is passed on to CyberSource for capture, and the approved capture is then returned to the ERP and finally to Salesforce, concluding the process.
Sounds like a lot of steps, but again, using our connector, authorization and capture takes one-seventh of the time that it previously took our client. Without a payment management integration, our client would have needed to dedicate a partial FTE to manage the process. By automating a couple of rote tasks, we freed up an employee’s time to fully focus on critical responsibilities. We built this connector because we recognized that many companies experienced similar issues. With the CyberSource connector, we filled a major gap in enterprise software performance.
A: From start to finish, the project has taken a month. This includes interacting with the client and other vendors, building the connector and the implementation itself. In fact, after the CyberSource connector was built, the actual implementation only took two days. When we come across clients interested in integrations, they often fear that the long-term benefits won’t outweigh the initial time and complexity of the project. However, as this success story indicates, the process is simple and short in duration. We can expect this client to experience a substantial return on their investment soon after the connector goes live.
A: A big one is PCI compliance. Of course, businesses are concerned about what data is being transferred back and forth between their systems. They want to comply with regulations and keep customer data safe. With our connector, the only data being handed back and forth is the authorization key—no credit card numbers or other sensitive data. As a result, users maintain PCI compliance without added work or expenses on their end.
A: There are some cases in which it makes more sense for a company to build their own connector, but it’s unlikely that a business has in-house software integration experts. At Datix, we’ve built over 50 connectors for an array of software vendors, including some of the big names: Epicor, Shopify, Magento, XE and ServiceNow, for example. We have a deep understanding of API and dot net development. There aren’t even a lot of consulting firms who can boast this experience, let alone manufacturers and distributors. For most businesses, consultants are the way to go for well-executed, fast integrations.
It’s safe to say Datix knows a thing or two about enterprise software integrations. Our consultants and developers are committed to solving real problems through comprehensive service, custom solutions and partnerships with some of the leading ERP, CRM and eCommerce software vendors. Our work on this client’s CyberSource connector project is one of many success stories under our belts. We’re the only Epicor Platinum Partner with a flagship integration solution, Unity. This makes us uniquely equipped to provide quality services that meet each client’s specific needs.
