What are effective steps to achieving an ERP implementation? I have found much success in following a detailed, carefully executed implementation strategy. An ERP implementation is a huge project and it takes keen oversight to ensure that the process goes smoothly. So if you are ready to get started check out what lies ahead.
Here we talk about goals and deliverables. This begins when we are in the sales process. Having a good evaluation will ensure a good implementation. We will identify business cases, initial timeline and scope. At the end of this stage we will have a signed contract in place.
This stage is really the launch of the project. We identify resources, success criteria and risks. The key tasks for your project are discussed and we define roles and responsibilities. We also conduct business model processing and prioritize use cases. Here we will have a review, make sure everything is in place and have a stage sign-off on the deliverables.
Our goals at this point are to make sure the user has base knowledge of the ERP system, like Epicor®. As your partner, we will have a detailed understanding of your business processes and needs. The software will be installed and we will review data to convert to the new system. Deliverables include integration and customization of your inventory, initial business process modeling and a use case catalog. An updated estimate will be presented along with a hardware and software installation plan.
The goals at this stage are to perform proof-of-concept and mini pilots. This is a vital stage when you can get the chance to evaluate the system using your cases and day-to-day functions. A final project cost estimate is in place, which allows you to confirm the final scope documents.
Now, in the Validate stage, we are building a fully functioning system. You will have a pilot system setup — your reports, workflow and customizations are loaded. Deployment planning is in place along with end-user training and procedures.
This is the “go-live” stage. Everything has been building toward this final stage. Here we offer the level of support the clients requires. This way we ensure everything goes smoothly. Your system is fully configured at this stage. Final end-user training is available. At this point, our clients may ask for continual training and help maintaining the system.
This process does take time and it is worth it. The entire process is time-intensive and challenging, but I know at the end of our time — and in the years to come of using the system — it will be well worth it.
